Lift that gun, marchin out the cadence
Isn't that what soldiers do?
Take a few steps, about face
seems like another one two one two.
Somedays it just doesn't work out that well...
so I ask you...
to put an angel with my soldier
as he marches out today.
Protect him from the evil things
that are gonna come his way,
and God if you're listening
tell him that I say...hello...
Protect the good and innocent
while giving up your life at home.
Don't let it get to you too much,
or you'll lose the way you know.
A good soldier finds a way
even when there's nowhere to go...

or the things that we have done,
but I can't stand here and wait
