Remember Me?

Johnny was walking home from school

when he saw a girl moving in next door.

He tried and tried to make her think he was cool,

so she wouldn't know he was poor.

They talked and ran, laughed and played

until one day when she asked Johnny what he wanted to be,

and all he said was "I don't care as long as you remember me."

Remember me,

and all the fun times we're having right now.

I wish to know

everything about you, and how

you came to be...

remember me?

A few years down the road

he moved away.

His dad got a new job,

and that girl, she cried so much that day

it was almost as if she could hear him say...

Remember me,

and all the fun times we had back then.

I want to know

everything about you, and how

you came to be...

and she thought...

Remember me,

and how I fell in love with you on that very day.

We were poor,

but I knew you were rich inside the whole time.

I wish I'd told

you exactly how I felt, but now there's so much left to say.

I want to be

with you in that place, so your heart could be with mine.

A few years later she got word that her friend had died,

but at the funeral

she couldn't seem to cry

because the last letter she got from him

said he had met a friend named Christ.

At that point she looked up to a cross

hung above the pews.

As she stared at it

she decided to choose...

Lord remember me,

and all the times that I have sinned against you.

I'm so sorry now for them.

I wish to know

everything about you, and how

you came to be,

so I can see

my friend again in heaven,

so on this day won't you please...

remember me?

Author's Notes/Comments:

I don't know what made me think of this poems content besides remembering a certain friend that i have had since I can remember who is half-way across the world right now...she is the one whom Christ used to lead me back to him, and I miss her a lot, but I know that she is over there doing what god wants of her.  I hope she knows the faith that I have in her...
