SURVIVING THE WOUNDS OF A GAPING KNIFE

Autumn strolls nonchalantly
As the drizzling rain revokes
Memories of yesteryears...
With sweet Daphne I danced
And drenched in the rain
Washing away the pain
Of pro-longed separation
Which loneliness evokes...
Daphne...in her green and white
Velvety garb and hazel eyes
Filled with love for none but me
And our Lord God Almighty...
Ah, the shower gently eases now!
Daphne remains as Katherine was
To 'Heathcliff' in 'Wuthering Heights'
To me...still unforgettable, the gloss
Still gives luminescence and lights
Up every beat of my loving heart
Never, never, shall we ever part!

Love to me after she left
Is filling up a deep cleft
In the unseen wounded heart
Where Cupid threw his dart.

For Daphne... everything I see
Becomes lovelier in memory:
Daphne...my loveliest beloved
Waves at me from a high cloud:
Smiling at me from her Garden
From the precincts of Eden
Waving at me to enjoy and live
I get more than what I give...

This September morn is an ember
Red in its glow and getting redder
Making me aware about true love
More sublime than the white dove
But for Daphne and her true love
I wouldn't have been what I am now!

True love is God's greatest gift
A blessing which I must cherish
As long as I am meant to be here
I will...just for Daphne's cheer!

O if only lovers can feel my aches
Of missing Daphne amidst the lakes
Where meeting and parting sing along
An eternal tune of a heart-rending song
Perhaps then each and every true lover
Will enjoy to bathe in this autumn shower
So as to just get another bathe of life
And survive the wounds of a gaping knife!

Author's Notes/Comments:

Again...this poem, like the previous one on Daphne, was found in the pages of a book "The Far Pavilions" which Daphne had given to me as a present...when we met after a long period of separation...more than two decades ago.
