BEATING FATE'S QUIRKS

It rains like it seldom has
Rained, for a long, long time;
I wish I had you closest to me,
To give a loving touch to my rhyme.

You tried -- as I tried too,
But destiny intervened again,
Our rapport failed to last as you,
And I, got bound in its chain.

The world envies us so watch out,
For those who veil their true self,
And want to know the truth about,
That, which does not concern any 'elf'.

This night is terrible yet I laugh,
For God's love and care are mine,
And with you as my sturdy staff,
I kiss your eyes and drink sweet wine.

The hollow ones lolly gagging* here,
Cannot tell the hidden joy of a tear,
They, like drunkards, sway and swing,
While you and I stay sober sans fear.

In a tavern of evil I have seen the hell,
Which surrounds those who wail and yell,
In envy and confusion at our great love,
They are entangled in the devil's spell.

O that true love could rule all hearts!
And the evil of envy blotted out by good,
How beautiful this world of ours would be,
A paradise, especially for you and me!

Remember the serpent who planned our fall,
From Eden and denuded Adam and Eve,
The same serpent's eggs have taken human form,
But with true love we can always stand tall.

In your gaze of heavenly dazzle I drown,
Caring not a whit about any envious frown,
What I have got in you they know not,
Fate's quirks too cannot steal what I own...

*LOLLY GAGGING: A slang term used for wasting time.
This poem is about my faith in God Almighty and the love between me and my beloved, rare woman.
