THE CONSTANT STRUGGLE

Darkened room
frazzled mind
things scattered
thoughts distracted:
Song on a video
shows a man
heart-broken
yet waiting to share
wine with his woman:
An aching sarcasm
in his eyes
and mannerism
As the woman tries
to get away from there
And sit at the table
where another guy
was using his eyes
as a snare
and the rabbit got trapped!
Outside the room
stark sunlight
heats up the scene
and the blaring flash
hurts my glare.
I am dead tired
after the graveyard shift
but sleep eludes me
as anxiety flares.
What to do?
I have to cope
Like I have been
for five decades
with the sorry state
of worldly affairs.
My eyes are closing
craving rest
and peaceful sleep.
Yet my stress
compels me
to stay awake.
It's like the mind
is doing its best
to save me
from falling...
I linger and linger
and wonder
when I 'll be
able to relax
in the arms
of undisturbed sleep.
