RAINY APRIL MORNINGS

Rumbling thunder
Drizzle turning into a shower
Thoughts scatter
Memories gather
I wish all is well with nature.
My hands hold
A poem written long ago
Green and white
A shadowy tree
Smiles and laughter
Shared with her
Whose name is Daphne...
It's green and white
Green grass, white jasmine,
And shadowy clouds
Sprinkling cool water
On the wings of air
And all this only
Makes me miss her
All the more...
Memories are strange
Like flashes of lightning
Sparking a new life
In the mind's embers
And the weather
Inspires this change....
So, as it keeps raining,
I keep struggling
Against remembering
Those good old times
Which meant everything
To me and Daphne...
O my beloved woman
Mistake me not
And give a thought
To what I have lost
And despite my efforts
To forget the past
There are times when
The rain and the colours
Green, white and dark
Revive the poem
Of a divine bond
Between me and Daphne...
Her auburn hair
Combed by the breeze
Her reddish cheeks
Blooming even more
Are like an encore
Of that sweet poem
That we both shared
Me and my Daphne...
Like Goldsmith's poem
About his village
The memories of yore
And the "Echoing Green"
By William Blake
Mixed with pure joy
Under the giant tree
The joy of sharing
Meaningful poetry
Always reappear
To make me relive
The moments with Daphne.
She lives peacefully
In a higher domain
Better than ever
And even lovelier
Forever and ever
While I must fight
The ongoing battle
And try to evade
Everything clinging
And reminding
Me of my first love
The beautiful Daphne.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem was inspired by the beautiful spring weather today. It was all so lovely, just like the morning of April 17, 1983, when my first love, Daphne, and I were enjoying the thunder and lightning, the cool moist breeze -- which was fanning her hair and making her reddish cheeks glow even more and making her look prettier and prettier....We were seated under a giant oak tree at our old school, reading our favourite poems and even writing a few of our own....and time flew by...Daphne left me to move on to a much better world in the vast universe of God Almighty. I keep trying to restrain memories from invading my present but then today it became obvious that I cannot succeed in erasing that unforgettable April morning of 1983 -- and the pleasant weather of this April morning made it even more harder for me not to relive that bygone lovely time...I hope my beloved, rare woman understands...
