LITTLE TO SMILE ABOUT

Even though spring is in the air
I find little cause to smile
As I see the poor toiling, groaning
And rich folks joyous all the while.
There is disaster in Japan
Future of children threatened
While famine grips Africa's Niger
And killings cripple Afghanistan.
Libya is engulfed in strife
So are Bahrain and Yemen
Some evil ones from Caucasus
Are bent upon destroying life.
It is strange to see in my homeland
People struggling for daily meals
But at the same time cricket matches
Are watched by many with much zeal.
Promises abound in this country
As misery keeps on increasing
Hypocricy, lies and diseased hearts
Are damaging its sovereignty.
A 'Supermoon' is high tonight
The biggest in eighteen years
I sigh at scientists' indifference
To thousands' afflicted plight.
So, though it's spring again
With flowers blooming everywhere
I cannot seek merriment
When all around there's thriving pain.
