GOD, LOVE, BEAUTY AND TRUTH

God, Allah, Jehovah, Ishwar,

Light, Force, Reality, Truth,

So many beautiful names to One

Who is an undefinable being

A droplet holding in me the truth

Of the same infallible being

When Mansoor Al-Hallaj* asked: "What is truth?"

"I am the truth" echoed his being.

When Muhammad the Prophet threw dust at foes

The voice of truth in him kept saying:

"It was not you O Muhammad who with dust caused storm",

"It was the truth to which you and yours do cling."

And when truth becomes converted into sublime love

The whole universe renews its truthful vow:

Love is truth, truth -- love and beauty

The most omnipresent of all reality

Defame not love, nor beauty nor truth

If you too want to be a drop of truth.

Truth has no opposite in the vastness around

Nor has it a semblance in the depths below

It is the light of the skies and all else

The light giving beauty to every good we know.
