WITH MY SAQI AND RED WINE AGAIN

Tonight, after quite some days,

I will cut myself off from this world,

And my Boon Companion will be my guest,

As red wine mixes my blood with haze.

Tonight I shall break a vow once more,

A vow that I will not drink again,

But when loved ones also deceive me,

I will be weeping with clouds and rain.

Let nobody distract me after sunset,

Let no one come and console my wounds,

My Saqi and I have a lot to share,

So tell the heartless to refrain.

Red wine is the balm that heals,

The stabs of deceivers and the vain,

It is the blood that infuses strength,

Its ruby lustre my aches conceals.

Let the holy ones stay away from me,

Because tonight I will have to be,

With my Saqi, my Divine Host,

And drinking... in His company.
