IN AN ISLAND OF CANNIBALS

The darkest part of the night,

Is when the heart is darkest,

Like Robinson Crusoe* waiting for Friday*

In an island of cannibals* I stray.

Author's Notes/Comments:

*ROBINSON CRUSOE: A  famous literary charater of Daniel Defoe who has to spend several years all alone in a deserted island following a shipwreck.

*FRIDAY: A black man rescued from cannibals by Robinson Crusoe who becomes his companion and friend on the deserted island.

*CANNIBALS: A term I have used here to describe many human beings.

This stanza of poetry was composed by me on the evening of December 10, 2016, in between sips of tea and cigarettes.
