Fall is the Time For Change

Folder:
Favourites :D

I missed the sun and the moon in the same small sky
Knowing a love that wasn't a lie
Remembering smiles that never were fake
Watching the couples sit watching the lake
Fall has always been the time for change
Accept it now before the concept seems strange

Fall is the season when leaves turn sad
Because the trees cut off everything they'd ever had
Quietly falling, making no sound
Grass muffles their screams as they hit the ground
Raked up and piled, cuz they take up space
Now a hundred tiny heartbreaks all in one place

Leaves are bagged, packed in, and shoved
The tree was the only one they'd ever loved
The bag topples over and the leaves spill out
Say they're okay but the wind has it's doubts
She encouragingly blows them across the lawn
Tries to convince them it's okay to move on

The tree stands up tall, enjoying the show
Safe in the knowledge that new leaves will grow
Knowledge that old flames tend to disappear
Knowledge that for him it's just that time of year
It's not for long that his branches are bare
As long as that's true, why should he care?

The sun and the moon hate sharing one sky
But I'm sure there is love that isn't a lie
Feelings are all at least a little bit fake
But watching the couples sit watching the lake
I get an idea, unlikely and strange
Maybe this time good things will stay for a change
