Where Were You

There's something 'bout the mirror that she hated

The thought of it just got her aggravated

Imperfect, stupid, ugly, and rejected

Perhaps these words the mirror had reflected

With mom working, dad not in the picture

Her friends busy, as well as her sister

She comes to the conclusion no one wants her

Suddenly, she turns into a monster

She's sobbing as she strikes out at the wall

She screams although it doesn't hurt at all

She's too numb for all this blood to matter

Through her eyes it's just a pretty splatter

She'd tried to reach out, but nobody listened

It's not her fault they ran from her admission

She grabs a pair of scissors from the table

She slits her wrists, surprised that she was able

Blood like rain, her heart echoes like thunder

And no one knows it as she's slipping under

Silence fills the room, the only sound is

Her fading breath as she comes to regret this

Scared as hell, she tries to stop the bleeding

Can't go back now, life's begun receding

As darkness falls around her she is thinking

Of things she'll never do because she's sinking

In a puddle of dark red, her body fighting

She wishes that the light looked less inviting

She can't help but want to leave life behind

In the shadows of the past, no longer confined

Too late to turn back, she starts to follow

A path to the unknown, her body hollow

She's found her freedom, now she's running wild

God's made another angel of this child

But she looks down from Heaven, her mom's crying

She wonders, "where were you when I was dying?"

A father never there weeps for his daughter

Ashamed of what abandonment had taught her

Her sister and her friends are down there grieving

She wonders, "where were you when I was leaving?"

Her body's lowered, everyone is praying

"Sorry"s all that they find themselves saying

But the time has passed, there'll be no more forgiving

She wonders, "where were you when I was living?"
