The Boy From The Band

The boy from the band, he was every girl’s dream

But the perfect little drummer boy wasn’t what he seemed

There were underlying issues, things he left unsaid

About his father beating him, the voices in his head

How his mother killed herself when he was only three

He witnessed as she slit her wrists and bled out easily

The trauma and the counseling, the alibis, the lies

The hottest boy in the band; such a cheap disguise

Cause there was pain that no one saw, and empty, sleepless nights

All the nightmares kept him up, surrounded him with fright

His girlfriend died from overdosing, she was so depressed

He was only sixteen when he put his love to rest

An alcoholic driver hit the road so drunk and then

He passed out at the wheel, hit and killed the boy’s best friend

But still he sits there, banging on the drums, he’s so intent

His escape from all the world, much of his time there spent

He can be whoever he wants to be, no one needs to know

That deep inside he’s filled with hate, but tonight he’s letting go

Another broken picture frame, a hole punched in a wall

Disasterpiece, his masterpiece, destruction in the hall

Furniture thrown everywhere, shattered glass reflects him

On his knees, begging please, he hopes God will accept him

Gets into his car and drives to a cliff above the sea

Walks to the edge, takes one last breath, free-falls a hundred feet

His car is found the very next day, and divers search the water

No one can believe he’s dead, not even his father

The body is retrieved and so the facts must be accepted

He hated life and no one saw what they should have expected

His mom committed suicide, his girlfriend did it too

His best friend was gone forever, what else could he do?

His dad only gave him bruises on those drunken Friday nights

Now all the ones who once were blind wish they had seen the light

But it’s too late, no second chances could make things okay

A million tears won’t raise the dead, but maybe they can pray

To the boy who’s six feet underground and finally free

Imperfect little drummer boy, may he now rest in peace

So when you get the idea that all in life is grand

Think about the story of the boy from the band
