Purple Eyes

Purple Eyes

I bring you carnal knowledge

set it at your feet

laid down as if it were a mat for you to walk on

shelter it no more, for a duet such as this

is useless with only one singer

Words did beautifully harmonize

captured the look of purple eyes

one can only imagine my surprise

when lyric and time no longer rhyme

belay scattered about

among the shattered dreams

Candle aglow with flickering ember

embeds the thoughts of one to remember

days of yesterday, dreams of tomorrow,

come and go with no time to borrow

October winds that blow

will soon give way

to December's snow

yet thoughts will remain

just the same

I will quietly refrain

from timeless visions of

hopeless love

For silence has become my virtue

I walk alone

stand-alone

remember alone

dance alone

reflect alone

for a rolling stone, Dear Purple Eyes... gathers no moss
