Just because you don't see what remains 

of old fires left within

doesn't mean

they never existed 

or ever caused a scarred hue

a cataract of ocular gloom

A cloudy glue insists upon the vulnerable 

layer upon layer

with an aimless greed 

demanding coverage by 

choking out the means

of lucid thoughts and noble dreams 

A soot commonly known as yesterday
