My Uncle’s Special Rifle

I remember one fall when I was little; I was playing with my cousins in my grandfather’s house and then my uncle told us that he had some amazing stories to tell. We rapidly sit in the floor and tell him to start. He show us all his blades, guns, binoculars and rifles while he was telling us all kind of ranch and hunting stories. He is my godfather and he is a hunting and ranch lover that’s why he had many stories to tell. He was talking about all the trophies he had collected through the years and the different kind of rifles he had used. Then he tell us a story which was the most interesting story to me. It was about a time he went to New Mexico, looking for an elk trophy. I loved the story because he told us that there he use for first time his 300 magnum rifle, my favorite. As he was telling the story he opened a big black case and there it was a black heavy rifle with a silver canyon and also a silver telescope which made it so shinny and made it very interesting and beautiful to me. Then he stop and said, and the final and best story because is the one in which I first used this favorite rifle, who used to be of your grandfather and he opened a thin old case and take out a rifle that seemed old to me. At that moment I said what? And I ask him; why is that you prefer that old rifle than the 300 MM? The 300 mag is newer, more powerful, more beautiful, I don't get it. Then he smiled and said you are little to understand but one day you will. So time pass, and there was time for my first hunting adventure. It was 2005 winter and we went to our ranch to hunt white-tail deer. I asked my uncle that if he could let me use the 300 mag, that I was older now. Then he said are sure? I had this big new rifle and showed me a new rifle and I was surprised it was more beautiful than the other. But I said I want the 300 mag, then he smiled, and I finally understand what my uncle told me years ago, I realized that the most important thing about the rifle wasn't its shinny color or the powerful it was. There will always be newer and better rifles. But the wonderful history that it had made and the wonderful memories it makes you remember are the things that make them special. That was my first hunting adventure, the first deer I hunted with my favorite rifle.
