Unwanted Conversations

Naive but creative is the best description of Pogo, a simple college-studying man from Monterrey, being as tall as a tree and friendly as a pig, he never had problems with anybody.

The life of Pogo was simple, going to work everyday, studying everyday, listening to people he didn’t care about and trying to understand why people talked so much. Pogo worked in a call center, maybe an ironic place for a person who hates to talk to people, and one of his fellow coworkers, Paul, had something special. He always looked sad and never went to social events, he liked to play video games and watch popular series on Netflix, but he never liked to assist to parties. Daily, Paul didn’t stop telling his everyday stories to Pogo, and, for being a call center, maybe listening to 2 persons at once could be a little hard.

In a cold, rainy day of February, Pogo was heading to his daily work routine in a call center, after a tough day of school. Normally, he inspects everything as he walks and one day he saw Paul on the side of the road, with a cigarette and his cell phone, checking out the latest twitter’s gossips, specially from the presidential debate. That was the first time Pogo saw his little friend without a microphone nor behind a desk and that made him feel weird, he thought that maybe Paul was actually a normal guy and he deserved some kind of opportunity, but, instead of having a quick talk, he ignored him again because he had to focus at the upcoming work.

One day, Pogo trying to change his own form of being and he tried the unbelievable, invite Paul to come over to a friend’s party. Unfortunately, Paul said that he would if he didn’t had plans. This was a bit weird for Pogo, because he thought it was the first time that Paul got invited to the party so he got a bit worried but they got back to work. That day was the first one with Pogo hearing the constant talking of Paul, after inviting him to the party, maybe he got even more confident.

The day of the party came in, and Pogo was waiting Paul to assist to the party, but the hours passed and there wasn’t any sign of Paul, so Pogo tried to call him but he wasn’t answering his phone. Something was wrong. He knew it. Maybe there’s something bad in Paul’s head and that made him make a bad decision, the one that scares Pogo even more than listening to freaking annoying people everyday. Pogo in his paranoia went running to Paul’s house, screaming to the door, howling for help, only to find out that Paul was with his night suit, getting ready for another party with another writers, after writing another of his well-known short stories in the internet. He realized that he was the one who needed help.
