to buy school supplies
for her children's youthful eyes
Simple slippers on their feet
a school uniform nice and neat
a bag notebooks and worksheet
would make this picture complete
She washes dishes and makes wishes
Her husband digs ditches and fishes
They have to take what she can get
forced to live a life of deep regret
Her desperate life is so sad
Still better lives can be had
School supplies would make her glad
And makes her life not so bad
To go to school the rules apply
to have slippers and school supplies
which she works so hard to buy so she cries
when we send her school supplies
