My Father’s Video Camera

Every Christmas, birthday, wedding or special event, I can remember my father with his video camera, recording every moment of the occasion. Whether he records a good, a bad, a sad, a funny or an awkward event he always saves it for the memory. My father spends almost every Sunday evening converting his DHL old cassettes into DVDs. I can remember the video camera existence since I’m born. Telling him to buy a one makes him feel uncomfortable, he is the typical perfect man who keeps his things in a perfect and clean condition, no matter how old they are, he watches for his stuff in a delicate and special way so he tells us that his video camera works as if it is new. But what I really think is that he doesn’t want to change it not because of how it works but for the memories it brings to him. Every birthday, Christmas dinners, Santa Claus presents, graduations, dance festivals, football games, first days of school, public classes, volleyball tournaments, Mother’s day, Father’s day, and endless memories he can remember. Family memories are so valuable, and there is only one way of going back to them. A time machine will work but unfortunately technologists haven’t invent them, but what my father always has said is that a video camera is like a time machine, its recording will store special moments families and friends have had.  What most identifies my father on a summer, winter or spring break vacation is his video camera, I can remember walking on Disney World, having a hot dog on the streets of New York, enjoying the streets of Las Vegas or even though having a great time in Six Flags and Sea World at San Antonio, and my father telling us to smile to the camera so we can remember that moment forever. On the old days when my siblings and I were younger we felt annoyed when my father took out he’s video camera, we always tried to hide so my father couldn’t record us but nowadays I can thank him with all my heart the job he has done. Having all those memories saved makes my family feel united. Knowing about how the love and care of my parents towards my siblings and I makes me feel like I am a special and fortunate human being, the best gift God could give me.
