Lower Your Standards

Stop dating these young men that follow their dreams,

with worlds as their oysters busting at proverbial seams.

They offer their sweet honey, then snatch it away,

'cause ultimately, their dreams win, at the end of the day.

It is your own heart that loses, when you're left in the lurch,

discovering your love's simply a brief stop, like a butterfly's perch.

His journey does not halt, stop or end at your door.

You wish only you were enough, but alas, he seeks so much more.

Though his thirst, drive and passion gave you love at first sight,

this same thirst, drive and passion make his young heart take flight.

And even though thoughts of him leaving overwhelm you with pain,

you know it only to be selfish if you asked him to remain.
