+ 1ST POEMS: Unto The End Of This Last Stage

Then said He unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

---Matthew 13:52

To terminal heart failure, I am resigned

to my body's rather rebellious, unfailsafe fate

as I approach an old age, in years,

of all of three score and eight.

Through my own fault, my stock has declined:

but the antidote to all existential fears

is this fact, which is no wishful thinking whim:

that anything that can be honestly achieved

is accomplished in Christ, and only though Him

to those of us---Christians---privileged to have believed;

and only in Christ to have received

the enjoyment, as Saint Habakkuk says, of Salvation.

And this, which shall be our souls' chiefest---eternal---exultation;

and my poetry's main and foremost inspiration.

Author's Notes/Comments:

The sixth through tenth lines allude to Philippians 4:13.  The twelfth line alludes to LXX Habakkuk 3:18.
