Eyes of the clown

Down turned mouth and haunting eyes,

Coloured hair and large red nose,

Face painted white concealing who is behind.

Entertaining the crowds in the circus tent,

Your friend in the ring, but who is the clown?

Is this where dangerous connexions are formed?

Who is the sullen masked stranger?

Hiding behind the dejected veneer.

What does the ghostly mask hide?

What when the crowds have departed?

As the ring falls disconcertingly silent,

That mask conceals a darker side.

Lurking now silent in the shadows,

A darker side to the nameless face rises.

Possessed by preceding horrors.

The face from before no longer jesting,

Jubilant laughter has altered now.

An evil mocking fills the night air.

The eyes are darker, intensely gazing?

What secrets dose the costume screen?

Silently creeping the sinful shadow duplicated.

Frozen, unmoving not daring to breath

Knowing the danger is creeping nearer,

Fearfully now encountering the evil eyes.

Last thing to be heard is a piercing cry,

Then silence as the masked stranger flees.

What horrors will he go on to provide?

Who hides behind the painted mask?

Who is the nameless stranger?

Whose evil eyes belong to the clown?
