FEAR

The unknown is the main cause of fear. Also, another main cause of fear is telling fantasy from reality. Again, however, there can be traced back to the unkmown. Almost any situation can be connected back to fear. This is especially true for children. A lot of things that adults are used to, children are not used to. They do not know what is going to happen. What will it be like? What is going to happen at the doctor's office? What is hiding under the bed? What is hiding in the dark? What is making all those noises? Those are just a few of the questions that children have. It is important first for parents to acknowledge all of the fears of children. They are all real and come from an honest place. Then, parents can begin to show children that there really is nothing to be afraid of. There are, however, some situations, that yes, will be scary sucg as the doctor's office. In that situation, parents and caregivers can tell children that all their fears are ok.
