Life is a Beach

Imagine walking along a beach and suddenly being aware of this little sound

like a far distant and soft hissing, murmuring.

You stop and listen harder.

It seems like the sound is coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

You move on a bit and stop again.

You listen.

The sound seems no nearer and yet no further away, and still coming from everywhere…except…..

and then you look down;

and realise that the sound is coming from beneath you…

well, beneath you and yet all around…and…

You squat down on the beach ………..and listen.

It’s the sand grains.

Every single grain is whispering.

You listen closer, but still can’t quite hear what they are saying.

So you get down on all fours and put your ear to the sands and listen;

listen so hard you stop breathing…

And you hear them.

And they are saying: “We are alone”.

Every single one of them.

Every single one of them.
