Days are counted

I am the omniscient watcher of a visage that was and is no more. Look at the sky, red is not the color it was meant to be. Fear, greed, boredom, lust, pride… they look at what you have done. Why? Why again? Complete confusion lays everywhere; the universe seems to be wrong.

I was alone for an entire week, I’m afraid of the sole idea of going out of my burrow; I already know what lays there. The beast created by a prideful God became corrupted and has eaten my clan. I’m alone and I ignore how much time left I will be permitted to live in this world. It will find me. Yes, I am the last living being of my kind. I’m a mouse who was born in the ashes of the so-called “Earth”, a word that means nothing but pain, agony, lies, and death. I like to remember stories about the true times of happiness and joy when every animal shared life and death, highs and lows together along with the Gods and peace reigned over every land. Everything changed; the five devils possessed members of the family so some species no longer wanted to be with us or some started to think they were superior from the rest of the community. At nights I wimp for life today; I grasp into hopes and dreams, but that’s just foolish of me.

After a few days of taking shelter, I realized that hiding will not give me the answers of the true story I wanted to know. I finally went back to the “surface”, unsurprised to see such imagery again: burned forests, dry lands and empty rivers. The silence is so impressive and frightening that I could hear my heartbeat, but suddenly I heard a growl behind me. I turned around, a demon found a demon with red eyes, whiskers on its face and sharp teeth. Before I could sleep, he rampaged towards me. I ran as fast as I could, and so did he; even though I was trying to save my life, I felt it was doomed already. For my surprise, I was running towards a cliff; I planted my legs in the ground and stopped, looking the wildcat was too late and fell down.

An owl came down from the sky and stood beside me, I look at him with my eyes wide open. “When someone loses faith on the Gods, it turns into a savage beast with no consciousness” the owl said. “Why the world has to be like this?” I asked him, he kept quiet for a moment and then replied: “Life on Earth is the presence of hell and its dark moments, full of pain and sorrow; but that is the test of faith we all have, before entering the paradise of heaven. Your days are counted”. He was right. A few days later, my shelter turned to become my grave, since it fell down over me. Do not worry; I'm happier than I had ever been. All my friends surround me once again, along with the other clans and the gods. This is the new world, one that lives forever.

The End
