The Reborn Rabbit

On a typical Tuesday morning, Linda woke up to get ready for yoga class, she quickly fed her big golden Labrador Retriever, Shaq and headed to class. She lives in a closed neighborhood so Shaq is free to get out and run freely. Linda returned home after class to find something amazing, she found Shaq seating calmly in her front porch with something dead besides him, “what is that” Linda thought. As she approached the dog she was in shock, it was Bugs! A beautiful pet rabbit that belonged to her long time friend and neighbor Kate. Linda what shocked, she couldn’t believe his dog had killed the rabbit, however knowing that only she knew, she quickly grabbed the rabbit and went inside. “if only I could hide this” she thought. She had an idea, maybe not the best, she grabbed dead bugs and began cleaning him up, he had blood and dirt stains, she bathed bugs and again the rabbit looked like he was no longer dead, but asleep, or at least that’s what she thought. She knew that Kate would leave her house around twelve to go pick up her kids from school, she was a single mother, her husband was killed in Iraq.

Linda`s heart began to pound as she knew the time to act came close, she could hear when her neighbor left because her porch door had a squeaked from a rusty part. So she waited, nothing, she began making herself something to eat as dead Bugs what waiting inside an old shoe box. Her mind kept swirling around the idea of fighting with Kate, she hated the idea, because she actually fell compassion for her and all she went through with her husband. She heard it, that was it, Kate was leaving, Linda began to shake, she was full of adrenaline, such a rush. She peeked out the window and saw Kate´s truck at the end of the road, she knew it was time. She grabbed Bugs and try to act calm, even Bugs could feel the adrenaline, Linda ran across her garden and approached the neighbor’s porch, she grabbed bugs and slowly placed him a few steps away from the front door. She ran back. As she entered her house, she knew she had accomplished her mission, and the adrenaline finally began to go away. Now, she knew that Kate would arrive around 13:00, she knew this because it was her daily routine and they knew each other for a long time now, however Linda though that Kate would not forgive her or Shaq for killing Bugs.

“Why doesn’t Kate arrive, where could she be?”, Linda’s mind was busy making up stories about terrible endings to this story, but she never imagined what would really happen. Finally she heard the porch open, it was time, Linda rushed to the window to see Kate`s reaction, “WHAT THE HELL!” Kate shouted, she was not surprised to see Bugs dead she was terrified!, she dropped her bag and ran towards Kate house pounding on the door. Kate ran downstairs to open, “what`s wrong?” “I don’t know how this happened but Bugs died 2 days ago and I buried him in the yard and now he`s seating in my porch all cleaned up! What is this?” said Kate very worried, Linda hugged her and walked Kate to the couch. “Let me get rid of him” said Linda as she helped Kate sit down and headed towards the dead rabbit, she picked him up and threw him away in a big trash canister. “how will I explain this?” Linda thought.
Turns out that Shaq had dug up Bugs from his death bed, and Linda though he had killed him, in an effort to clear herself she actually scared the hell out of her long time neighbor. Kate still hasn’t figured out what happened that day.
