Just A Memory

As the snow falls starts coming down

With the lights from steady cars

The mitten all frozen to the ground

The life he knew is as close as the lonely stars

The man just lays against that darkend wall

Back behind the trash

Trying to absorb the building warmth

Watching his cigarette turn to ash

He stares across the street

Where others are laying too

They don’t know where to go

They don’t know what to do

Their lives being turned by the financial lack

Their stock has come and gone

The houses they had the bank took back

All they say is this is wrong

The cold night turns to day

And people start to come

It is time for him to beg away

To see if he could make some

The brightest time is when the shelter starts

The doors open wide

The racing of their hearts

For this is when they have to suck up their pride

If they’re lucky they can get a bed

To sleep till morning light

The man remembers what a deer friend said

Remember your happy memories…they’ll take you through the night

And so all that he ever knows

The life he had was history

For until those stocks he has can grow

His life is just a memory.
