Pray for our Soldiers

Most poets lately stopped to write,

(With several exceptions rare)

Of our soldiers constant fight

In foreign lands’ polluted air.

They bleed and battle on and on

And suffer much,  forget this not,

They battle, weary to the bone,

And cry for their bare lives to God!

Forgetfulness is shabby friend,

Ungratefulness is yet much worse,

It’s  wholesome though to make amends,

To lift so sickening a curse.

The flesh is weak, it hates to strife,

But warriors are deprived of rest,

They risk at all times weal and life,

Put every moment to the test

To meet a test, does  need support

At every instant of the day,

Pray for the strong arms of the Lord

To shield the warriors, please pray.!

Lo! soldiers are obedient,

Obedient to  duty’s call,

But terror lurks round every bend,

For the heroic fighters all.

An  ugly thing - forgetfulness

That makes poor victims  fool and prey

Of more crimes yet to come - distress,-

Forgetfulness be prompt to slay.

And if you must forgive - then do,-

But keep in mind to not  forget

This will embolden fiends to sue

Their monstrous  course - full iron clad.

Besides, your child will never learn

From memory nor history,

T’ween fiend and comrade to discern,

What pity ! -what calamity!.

Be wakeful then and be alert,

The thug may come at any day,

Pray for alertness to the Lord,

Who counsels you for it to pray.
