Purgatory

The souls of the departed need much  more

Than only sentimental memories,

They have arrived upon the other shore,

But earthly flaws keep them from final bliss

Its what is Purgatory called in simple speech,

Nice memories alone do help them not

If they could speak to us they would beseech

Those left behind to pray for them to God.

A prayer that St. Francis spoke so oft:

“Lord grant me that I may prefer to give-

And much prefer to love than to be loved,

And proffer comfort rather than receive!“

And prayer is the prize less gift to give

Of which the loved ones never get enough

Let prayer ease the sorrow, hurt and  grief,

And  be the bond of everlasting love
