A Prayer For a City

I walked the city streets

And I saw the passer-by

I saw the one who plaid guitar

And the one who sold the pie

I saw the one who laughed

I saw the one who cried

I saw the one who did believe

And the one who oft' denied

I saw the steeples high

And the buildings, oh-so fair

I heard the church bells ringing

But I didn't see you there

I looked into the chapels

And the assembly centers too

They all had crosses tall and high

But I never did see you

I'm sure you're in a place

Where I had not closely checked

I ne'er have time for everywhere

N'or to each place inspect

But the lyrics ring so clear

Of that song about this town

I can still hear the words: "Even Billy

Sunday couldn't shut you down"

Her liquor is to die for

Her party life, unmatched

Her pornogrophy is world renound

So spiritually detached

I come before you now

In humble servant's plee

I love my city, please spare her, Lord

Bring revival, and please use me

Use me to bring the gospel

To this city oh so lost

Help me not regard the shame

And never to count the cost

Soldier Field, Wrigly Park

United Center, House of Blues

Us Cellular Field would be fine

Fill these large venues

With hearers who will hear

And seers who will see

The hope of the glorious Gospel, Lord

Found only of and in thee

May many hear and repent

May many finally know

May many finally come to the Lord

In the Windy City, Chicago
