Searching the skies turned up a lavender tune
With a shadow ‘til midnight
Not a star within view
Cornflower chasing a debutant hue
I thought of me before I thought of you
Caught some zzz’s earlier in a silent slow breeze
Found calm surrender even in deep, choppy seas
Touched on words that landed in my solemn steps
Golden vows that rolled in
And stoic vows that since left
Sunnier side has begun to cautiously emerge
A sunken piece of character - he liked to submerge
But not openly, not loudly
Not boldly, nor brave
Some beasts have fangs - some have ordinary ways
It happened so steadily - it was a mechanical transition
But I am not geared for tyrannical oppression
I am not turned on
I am not instructed
I am not lucky
Not even remotely familiar
I am not spit out - I often like to linger
In memories collected…
in photos, in dreams, in paperwork upon paperwork, in regrets floating downstream
I built a canoe and row over romance that hits like monsoon
I found shoulders to straighten and a chin to raise
I found eyes to show you a witch’s steel gaze
I found lips to speak truth like spells on repeat
I found lions to tame in my rings of flame
I change what I can and lose what I should
I’m training maybes to do as they’re told
I’m turning white hairs into straight gold
I’m playing with colors
I’m playing a game
But I made the rules, just to throw it away
You named me a manipulator
You named me a whore
You named me a housewife
You named me a bore
You named me a bitch
You named me unworthy
How unfortunate for you I don’t come when I’m called
A smirk that felt free and a smirk I did make
I took the lavender straight out of the sky
Bunched it up all pretty
And laid it just right
It sits in a vase where it climbs out from the sides
To remind me of the night when everything felt almost alright
I knew the season had changed
I was coming into bloom
Sooner than later - karma will fill up the moon
Clouds then pour it all out in a first May rain
May it bathe me in splendor again and again.
