One Act Play

The curtain rises with a fading light of crimson sunset made by bright footlights covered by transparent crimson paper. A half circle is painted in the backdrop with a few trees' silouhettes(Check spelling) A teenage boy scampers onto the frontstage and woefully stares at the red sun..... His name is Suman ::::

Awww !!! its sunset... have to return home to do my homework.My tutor'll be coming.That awful lady !!
She never cares to treat me well. I just don't like to study. How nice it is to stand here in the grass and watch. Today I'll wait a little longer .... maximum I'll get a slap or two.. what else.My parents are BAD !! For more than a year I've been asking them to buy me a cellphone but they just wont.When I "do facebook" on my mom's moblle she gets annoyed....My parents even dont allow me to watch TV for long. That infernal ***** must be sipping tea in my study and complaining about my lagging behind in grades.They dont understand... School from 11 am to 5 pm..6.30 pm to 8.30 pm tutor 6 days a week.
(Suman returns home ,washes,changes clothes and enters his study room)
Mrs.Swarnachampa is seen busy scanning the evening newspaper leisurely while Sumans mom anxiously looks at her wristwatch frequently seated in the adjacent room.An empty cup sits on the study table.
Mrs. Swarnachampa(Home Tutor) ::-(Putting the newspaper away)
Late by THIRTY minutes !!! Whatever will you do ?! There's no point in teaching a student like you .... wastage of valuable time and your parent's hard earned money !!! Why are you late again today ?
Suman (not feeling at all guilty) :::-
Ma'am I'm sorry.... please excuse me for the last time.... Actually I was seeing the beautiful colours of sunset.You must also see it someday just beside the pond.....
Tutor :::-
Enough of your cock and bull stories. Were you alone or with someone? Must be with that beggar of a girl Riya.. Don't lie to me for heavens sake !!
Suman loses his cool and stands up straight and tall in front of his overweight tutor right hand rolled into a boxers fist and bangs hard on the wooden table.
Suman :::-
Does it make any difference if I was alone or with someone else ! And.. by the way don't talk about Riya in that way. She is a very nice girl and good in her grades too.Good looking too... not like you you elephantine *****
Tutor :::-(shouting loudly)
You scum..... good for nothing boy !!!! Shut up your dirty mouth full of everlasting lies !!! Sit down and don't stare at me like that ... I'm your tutor.. not your schoolfriend !!!! Do you understand.... Sit down I say (almost screaming)
Both Suman and his tutor cool down after some time. Tutor asks Suman to twist the ceiling fan's regulator and bring her a glass of cold water to drink. Suman goes to the kitchen.. drinks a glass of water himself and brings a glass for his teacher(Only sounds are heard) After a few minutes both settle smugly in their chairs egos hurt and bruised.
Again you have come to MY CLASS without your books or excercise copy.... Do you think I come here to do baby-sitting ? Within ONE MINUTE bring your English Literature and Geography.
Suman goes to a cupboard most reluctantly and fetches his Merchant of Venice and New World Geography. He puts them down on the table with a loud thud.While he was doing so Mrs. Swarnachampa has taken out a nail file and got into filing her painted nails.

Ma'am you're sposed to teach me ... But you are busy filing your rotten nails .....
Tutor :::-
Don't you call my nails rotten you good-for-nothing scum !!! They're better than your bitten ones !! Open your Geography book to the chapter on "Volcanos" Look at the picture... see the structure.. At the center of the earth there is molten rocks called magma.This comes out through holes or fiissures on earth's surface.The process is called ERUPTION
Take another look at the picture and draw a volcano in your excercise book and label it within three minutes....
Suman takes almost fifteen minutes but the picture he draws is truly magnificent.A projection of the drawing is shown to the audience.Suman has drawn the picture perfectly and also coloured it nicely with crayons.But the tutor isn't impressed.
Who told you to colour the sketch ??!! Just wasting time as usual.Don't do this in your class test.Marks will be deducted.
Can't you learn to do ANYTHING properly..... Now READ loudly from pages 63 to page 65 LOUDLY so that I can hear..
The chiming clock strikes 7.30.The clock is in full view of the onlookers.Suman waits for the strikes to stop and then begins reading aloud.The tutor is lost in her own thoughts barely listening. Now and then she glances at the clock.
(To herself so that Suman cannot hear) Another hour of drudgery !!! (Loudly to Suman) Why are you silent ? Finished?

She pens down 10 questions reading them aloud.
