Christmas Eve

Biting chill in the winter air welcoming hearts

Warm with feeling of gay abandon... celebration

Midnight Church visitors clad in cozy woolens

Colours of bright rainbow the bright winter sky

Sliver of light hanging in the sky,no strings... the moon

Shop window alive with glittering light, gay colours

Lonely , clad in coarse rags, shivering, begging favours

The beggar's son !!! Why has Christ deprived him ???

Is he not one of Jesus Christ's ardent lovers ?

Agony of Christ--- silently bearing pain on the cross

Who is that stooping bent figure on the street ?

Long beard ,greyed hair, dusty bare feet

Shivering amidst the frolicking humans of today

He's not making merry Christmas.. he's not feeling gay !

The beggar's wife unable to bear the gruelling grind

Left her dearest man looking for a life of another kind

Where is Christ ? Where is Santa Claus ?

Why do their believers suffer such immense loss ?

Loss of a single night of fun living under the same sun

Do these unfortunates not deserve a better lot ?

Strange mystery that they're happy and haven't forgot !!!!

Author's Notes/Comments:

Christmas Eve in my city in the area of Park Street, New Market,St Pauls Church is fun all the way through the night irrespective of religious background. All make merry. Just a thought for the have-nots.
