My Odd Jobs.

  • My Odd Jobs.
  • Slowly falling to the ground were the leaves of the Birch Tree. No matter how often one raked them together on a heap and then carted the fallen leaves to the compost heap, other leaves continued to fall at a seemingly leisurely rate. This leaf raking was and always will be one of those never ending jobs that fill my autumn days.
  • The rough digging of the garden getting ready for the planting in the spring is another backbreaking job that has to be done. I am one of those people that enjoy fresh salads from my own garden. The flower bulbs have to be planted as well if one wants fresh flowers in spring and summer.
  • The paths need doing; fresh gravel spread along each path makes it easier to walk in the garden especially after periods of rain have fallen. Talking of rain the water butts have to be cleaned ready for soft water for watering the plants. Plants like fresh rainwater collected from the roof in the large butts.
  • Must not forget the lawn mower. The blade is to be sharpened. The mower needs cleaning and spraying with oil so that rust does not collect over the winter months when it is not in use.
  • The lawn needs my attention the dandelions with their deep roots and the seeds that when ripe are blown all over the place. I do not need dandelions in among my salads or my flowers. I have nothing against them in fields where cattle and other animals are grazing but in my front lawn no way. Out comes my special tool I place this over the dandelion and push down as hard as I can to get the deep roots out of my lawn. It is the same when I dig my garden the grass known as couch grass will spread all over the garden if the roots are not taken out and burnt on a small bonfire.
  • The next little job is to clean all of my tools both garden and my car tools all are cleaned and oiled where necessary again oil is sprayed over most of the tools.
  • The last job to be done is to get the long ladder put it up to the roof guttering and clean the gutter of leaves and other dirt that has accumulated over the summer months. The ladder is put back and locked with two chains and two padlocks. I do not want anyone to use my ladder to help them if the try to break into my house.
