The Badger.

The Badger.

Here in Fairyland we have a family of badgers, Usually Badgers are to be seen moving perhaps a little clumsily as they look for insects and small creatures to eat. The Badger unlike other animals is a quiet animal but he too can be very dangerous if upset. I must admit I do not know much about the Badgers and how they live and asked her Majesty Queen Feeanna, Queen of all the Fairies to turn me into a Badger for a day. Her Majesty smiled and waved her magic wand. I felt myself shrinking and my eyes felt somehow different. All I really felt was a hunger in my tummy. I was now a Badger and had no knowledge of being a human. I was hungry and concentrated on all that went on around me. A large beetle vanished down my throat then a small lizard waddling on; on my four legs I caught a frog. I was still hungry. The fox sniffed the air and circled around me I do not like foxes and the Fox always avoids me.

Suddenly a familiar smell tickled my nose. I knew this smell. Changing my direction I waddled into a small clearing and saw a female Badger she had two Badger cubs with her. On seeing me she waddled as fast as she could in my direction. This female badger meant danger and I must admit I did not feel up to having a quarrel or even a fight with a female Badger with cubs. I must admit the thought of one of the cubs inside my belly was very tempting but somehow I knew I could not win against a mother Badger. Turning as quickly as I could I waddled off in another direction. All the time I was on the look out for tasty insects and small creatures to eat.

Her Majesty must have been looking out for me for suddenly I grew and was my old self. Smiling her majesty asked me if I had learned anything about Badgers. It was now late in the evening I must have been a Badger for at least a day. I told her Majesty that all I could remember was hunger and the danger that comes from a female badger with cubs. I was really no wiser than I had been before being changed into a Badger. One thing I remember was that my eyesight as a Badger was very poor and needed glasses to see the insects and small creatures more clearly.
