The Frog Messenger.

The Frog Messenger.

Sitting on the roots of the old oak tree enjoying the cool breeze blowing gently through Fairyland. I must admit that the frog that hopped onto my lap surprised me. The frog spoke, “I am a messenger sent to you by the Wizard Morgengrau. Listen well for I am only able to speak in the human tongue just once. A plot to attack Fairyland by sending a plague of frogs from Africa that are highly dangerous for they can spit poison which will kill a victim in seconds is in preparation. Expect the attack in a few days. The frog hopped off on other business leaving me to ponder over this new threat to Fairyland and its inhabitants.

What should I do it would be too dangerous not to heed the warning on the other hand I did not want to start a panic among the Fairy Folk. I decided that this was something that Her Majesty Queen Feeanna should know about she would be able to take the appropriate measures to keep the Fairy Folk from harm. A Wren flew to me as I was thinking about this new threat and I sent the Wren off to Her Majesty to ask her to meet me in the clearing by the old oak tree. The bright blue flash and the whiff of smoke told me that Her Majesty had arrived. We exchanged greetings and I told Her Majesty of the Frog Messenger and its message.

Her Majesty waved her magic wand and spoke some words in the old Fairy Language and I felt the pull of travelling by magic. All the inhabitants of Fairyland were now in safety of the deep caves under the Himalayan Mountains. Trolls and Pixies were grumbling the Leprechauns took it all in good part and wandered off to eat of the strange fruits that grew here in the deep caves. The Fairies flew off to their homes here in the caves. Soon it was only Her Majesty and Myself to be seen. We spoke about how to get rid of this threat against Fairyland, Morgengrau was a well-known Wizard and very powerful he had not been seen or heard of for a very long time but all knew how dangerous he was. Morgengrau had been to Africa where he had made an intensive study of the African insects. His first idea was to attack Fairyland with plagues of Tsetse Flies to give the Fairies the illness of sleeping sickness. He changed his mind knowing that the Fairy University would soon come up with a cure.

The frogs that spat poison caught his attention and he decided to send swarms of African frogs to kill the Fairies. The Fairy University would not have enough time to combat his African Frogs. I volunteered to go back to Fairyland with a group of Leprechauns. I drew a few models of special clothes that would not let the poison of the frogs get on to our skin. Her Majesty waved her magic wand and myself and a dozen Leprechauns all dressed like modern astronauts. Returned to Fairyland. The frogs were all ready in Fairyland but they had nothing to do. Not a Fairy was to be seen.

Soon the frogs were being attacked by the shillelaghs of the Leprechauns and slowly but surely driven back to the coast where the shillelaghs drove them all into the see. The African Frogs were all drowned and are no more a threat to Fairyland. Her Majesty and the other inhabitants of Fairyland returned a week later after the Leprechauns had made sure that no more African Frogs were waiting around to poison innocent Fairies. Bern
