A Day In Nature.

I watched the Sea Gull rising as if on a high wind then a swooping down into the stormy waves rising with a fish in her beak. This was nature at its best. Soon the gulls peaceful fishing was interrupted a second Gull came on the scene. The first Gull dived down and reappeared again with a fish in its beak. The second Gull made a swooping dive and caused the first Gull to drop the fish. The second Gull moved her wings a little and caught the falling fish in her beak. I stood fascinated, what would the first Gull do now? Would she attack the second gull would I be a witness to a battle between the two Gulls? No it was not to be, the second Gull flew off with the fish in her beak. The first Gull dived again and another fish was caught and this first Gull flew off with the fish. The wind increased in force and I decided to move to a safer place.

Some twenty minutes later I was sitting with my back to an old oak tree. The tree not only gave me shelter from the high winds but also a seat on its roots. I was to enjoy another scene from Natures large scope of adventures between the animals.  This time a wild pig with about ten young piglets all grunting and squealing with me, as spectator.  I watched the mother pig ripping open the ground with her mouth and the piglets eating whatever it was she unearthed from the ground. It did not take long and the clearing by the old oak tree was ripped open. The piglets were copying their mother. A Boar a male wild pig came on to the scene. The mother pig gave off what I took to be a series of grunted warnings. The boar took no notice and approached one of the piglets. The mother pig shook her head and charged the Boar. I did not believe it possible for her to overturn the Boar but this is what happened. The boar lay on its back with its feet trampling in the air. The mother pig gave another series of grunts and with her piglets following her she left the clearing. What should I do? I could not leave the male pig lying there with its legs trampling in the air. I know that it is wiser to leave Wild Pigs to look after themselves but this one was so helpless that I felt that I was somehow obliged to help it. Approaching it as silent as I could be I grabbed it and placed it on its feet. I did not realise how heavy such a swine could be. The boar looked at me for a few seconds raised its short tail grunted and ran off. I went back to my root under the old oak tree and wondered what Nature would next show me. Nothing spectacular happened I saw an Owl perched high in the branches of the old oak tree. It was the feeling of hunger that eventually got me up on my feet and I walked quietly home. I was treated again by Nature to a show of Butterflies and birds Looking at my watch I saw that I had been away from home all day. I have finished my teatime meal and have sat down to my computer to scribble this little story for you all. Bern the scribbler will often go out into Mother Nature to observe the wild life and its ways of life. Until to morrow Bern
