No Names Mentioned.

Do you have the problem of remembering names? I do and I do not try any more to remember any name. I find that at my age a Hello is sufficient. Sometime during the conversation names will be mentioned but as I do not know the name of the person I am speaking to it does not worry me. My plea is that if you speak to someone that is nearly as old as Methusalem then do say your name early on in the conversation. I for one will be pleased to be able to speak to you by name. If you have a title then that too will be appreciated. Knowing that you are a Doctor I cannot go wrong or even if you are a director that too will help. Some say I am suffering from Alzheimer’s, no it is not Alzheimer’s just a small gap in my brain that does not bother with names.

I suppose that you would like an example well here goes, I went to see my Doctor the other day no problem there Her name is on a plate on her door leading into her rooms. I sit in the waiting room and hear name after name being called out then I hear my name. I get up and walk past the receptionist who kindly says Frau Doctor so and so will see you now Mr. Shaw. I thank the receptionist and knock on the Frau Doctors door. Her welcome words Good Morning Mr. Shaw what problems have you today, all conversation is in German. I remember her name Good Morning Frau Doctor so and so. Then I tell her my reason for disturbing her when she is obviously very busy. The waiting room is always full of Patients of all ages. Many different languages are spoken. Austria has many refugees from many different countries. I often wonder how Frau Doctor so and so copes with all of these people or should I say Patients. Even if I had studied Medicine I could never remember the many strange names and that is just a visit to the Doctors. I often wonder how the shop owners cope with this name problem. Some of the languages spoken would if I were a shop keeper and the foreign names of the articles in the shop even simple things like Banana’s what is the name for a Banana in any of the Arabic languages. I know that in most European countries the name for Bananas is used from the country where it is grown but what about other simple things such as milk and butter or cheese Most of the refuges have difficulties learning German that is spoken in Austria, and what about the dialects that are used out in the countryside. Perhaps now you can see why I have difficulties remembering Names. This is one of the reasons why I call myself Bern the scribbler. It is perhaps easier for you all to remember.
