Not An Ordinary Wristwatch.

Sitting at the table next to me was an elderly gentleman. He sat at a table and I watched him occasionally put his wrist to his ear. I realised that he was listening to hear if his watch was going. My watch is more modern and works with a battery. I decided to test my watch and held it to my ear. I could hear no tick or tock but two people speaking to each other. This is not possible; I placed the watch again to my ear. The voices were still speaking.

Holding my watch to my ear I listened to the two voices. “Have you put the cat out for the night? No I thought that you had put it out, don’t get up I’ll do it. I heard a meow and a door slammed. She’s out now, don’t know why we had a cat in the first place, bloody nuisance I say. No go on, you know you would not be without a cat.

The elderly Gentleman smiled and left I still had my wristwatch to my ear. I heard a voice saying, ”I’m going to bed what about you?” “No I want to watch the film that is coming on the television in a few minutes.”

I paid for what I had eaten and left the restaurant, a brisk walk home. Sitting in my comfortable armchair, I held the wristwatch to my ear once again. A voice complained that the bloody television is not what it was. The films are all repeats and nothing new to be seen. Don’t know why we pay such television fees for the rubbish we get. Good job that we get the news program. The other voice called out, “Why don’t you come to bed. Its late.”  I’m coming just got to switch this television off. Mind you I feel like throwing it out of the window. Load of shit. Should not have bought it in the first place. I put my wristwatch on the table, I was not interested in any kind of bed talks from whomever it was that the wristwatch was overhearing.

I do not want to bother you all but it would please me if you placed your own wristwatch to your ear. Perhaps you too have something to listen to instead of looking at the Television. I know that tomorrow I will listen again to what my two speakers are talking about. Who knows perhaps a new story that I will write for you all to read. Now wouldn’t that be something new and interesting. Gossip at first hand wonderful. I hope that when I have to replace the wristwatch>’s battery that the two voices stay with me. Bern.
