A Leprechaun.

A Leprechaun.

A little old Leprechaun sat high up in an apple tree,

Smiling broadly he waved his gnarled old hand at me.

If you can catch me I must give you some gold.

I know you wont try because you are much too old.

I will you know make you some shoes of red leather.

When I can find some leather as light as a feather.

I laughed back and looked into his light blue eyes.

Such magical leather can only come from the skies.

He nodded quite solemnly his wizened old head.

I’ll supply the leather if you will give me some bread.

It’s a deal I laughed and went into my old house.

I rescued a fresh loaf from my large family mouse.

I took it into the garden wrapped up in fine cloth.

The bread is ideal but do you too have some broth.

Back into my kitchen on the stove was boiling away.

My midday meal I am most happy to be able to say.

I carried a large pot of broth to the old apple tree.

This is all that I have your welcome to share with me.

Together we ate broth and fresh bread from my house.

I do not know what I will say to my large Family Mouse.

Finishing our meal we talked long about the weather.

Then I smiled and said where will you get your leather.

A Fairy owes me a favour and she will come on by.

The magic leather she will drop from out of the sky.

Leather dropped into the Leprechauns waiting hands.

It was as light as a feather tied up with some red bands.

He quickly took my size and made me a pair of new shoes.

Then he quietly told me of all the good Fairyland news.

Now it is time for me to finish this my newest of tales.

This all happened to me at the last year's Fairy sales..
