Do you remember Helen, Helen Kane that is.

A singer oh so good, she put the show in biz.

"One day i had fifty cents, the next fifty thousand dollars"

Fully fledged ambition can really make you holler.



Born Helen Schroeder, august nineteen hundred and three.

To an Irish mother and German father in the land of the free.

She toured with the Marx Brothers in those pre-movie days.

Trooping in the Vaudeville learning hard stage ways.

"I lived way up in the Bronx". She would tell you with a frown,

"and had a bit to travel to sing in nightclubs way downtown".

In late nineteen twenty eight just barely twenty four,

fame and fortune came a knocking on her door.



It was in the Paramount theatre in that famous Times Square.

That she sang "Thats my weakness now" with short bobbed hair.

She added scat lyrics-Boop-Boop-a-Doop, the whole place just went crazy!

Helen Kanes name went up in lights and everything went hazy.

When you first see Helen Kane(oh Marilyn eat your heart out)

She can squeak and sing ,but man oh man what a pout!

There were lookalikes and dolls, oh my the price of fame.

(You couldn"t throw a brick) without hitting Helen Kane!



A cartoon dog called Bimbo, he simply fanned the flame.

His new friend Betty Boop was born, based on Helen Kane.

Betty Boop, short skirt bobbed hair and twirl,

but she wasn"t the original Boop-Boop-a-Doop girl!

In nineteen sixty six at the age of sixty three,

on september twenty sixth the good lord set her free.

Betty Boop still lives, cartoons they live forever

and so will Helen Kane, the two of them together.
