The Pearl and the Emerald

The Pearl, island of my youth,

Looked across the sea for love.

There, in the cold waters of the North

Found the green shores of the Emerald Isle.

The Pearl sought to ask,

Why are your people so glad?”

The Emerald replied with a touch of pride,

There is warmth in their hearts and fire in the hearth”

The Pearl reached out with love, to touch the Emerald’s smile

And share the warmth with a cold water isle.

The Emerald sighed for the love being offered

The warm touch from afar,

The glint of the sun from the tropics.

So different they were, but still so alike

One from the tropics, one from the North

Both green and alone,

Both warm in their heart.

When I look to the sea, in storm or in calm,

Always I’ll think of the Pearl reaching for love,

As I looked past the cold of my heart,

The island of me, found the Emerald you.
