The Face of Death

Folder:
Early Years

Death follows me today,

I feel his coldness

Reaching for my bones.

Death,

How close must you come?

Spare me a moment

Though the option’s not mine

A mere few seconds

Out of endless time.

Gateway to the city

Or threshold to nowhere

He shows no pity

And doesn’t care.

Now am I finished

Or have I begun?

Whatever the answer

I can not run.

He follows close

And doesn’t fade

A shadow black

A hole in space.

The spark of life died

A short while ago,

After it faltered and flickered

As a candle touched by snow.

There was nothing left of me

Just the terror in my mind

This I soon conquered

For the face of Death was kind.
