In The Cold

Autumn changes to something cold

Silent, dead cold, like your heart

A clear night sky brings winter winds

Ice drops down, like a sharp dart

It's a moonlit light of such beauty

I should have known there would be pain

Because with the ice-sharp words you spoke

My heart was crushed to grain

I looked up at the clear, starry sky

And tears fell from my eyes

You shed not one bit of emotion

As you said your last goodbyes

The window was wide open

It was a long way down

And as you turned to leave

Is when I hit the ground

I guess I had figured that

My heart had died anyway

And now you will remember me

Forever, the rest of your life, day after day
