He's Just A Boy

Folder:
A Day In The Life

Flashes a big toothy grin

hoping to charm his way

out of this one...

slingshot tucked in back pocket

and a looks suspicious smirk

hurts to think of giggles choked...

while he ducks beneath that dirty ballcap

he found tucked away in dust

treasured finders keep...

Ahh, he's just a boy

saying he's not quite sure how

that window got broked.

Plays like there's no tomorrow

makes the most of his today

every sky has rainbows...

not afraid to touch the sun

climbs the highest mountain tree

and flies just to prove his wings...

Skinned shins, dirty hands, firefly paint

the boy adorns himself complete

just can't seem to shake that smile...

Ahh, he's just a boy

proves the world is just too big

to not find joy in simple things.

Chews a cud of gum beyond belief

fixes things for second chance

wears his clothes until they just don't fit...

Does his soldiering, cowboying and doctoring

all in the same afternoon

inches his way into trouble deep...

blames it on his sister even if they watch his play

and giggles when he's caught

in his matter-of-fact kind of way...

Makes an old man wonder 'bout that boy

lost in pictures framing years

"now I lay me down to sleep".
