Just a memory

Mr. Sandman arrives in a bus, he looks around and feels like he had travelled 13 decades ago instead of 13 hours forward, it’s early in the morning and he hasn’t eaten anything, so he goes to “Frogceries store” and buys himself a coffee. There isn’t much to do at the small bus station so he takes a taxi cab that drives him up and up on the mountain until he reaches his destiny faster than he thought.

Mr. Sandman’s stomach growls demanding breakfast, so he leaves his baggage in the lobby of the hotel under the receptionist’s watch and takes a bus downtown. The restaurants zone is two stops ahead, Sandman barely remembers the city where he’d been last year, there’s something different in the way he feels about the place, maybe it is because he’s wearing different shoes and different clothes, something just felt different, in a better way if you ask Sandman. The bus is about to stop and the guy sitting next to Sandman gives him a book and a magic wand and tells him that he can use it as he please, the guy disappeared before Sandman could make any reaction. Sandman begins trying several enchantments from the book and notices that the wand works and it was not a fraud as he’d swear it was, he doesn’t want to make bad use of it so he tries simple enchantments like adding flavor to his meals, protecting himself with some kind of invisible shield that would cast away any physical danger and making things easier to do here and there, he just had a good time.

The day finished and the next day he must begin with the work he went to do in the first place. Sandman gathers with his fellow software engineers in the Center of Innovation on Mechanics and Advanced Technology where he’s trying to develop an app. The project requires his attendance almost all the time, he checks on the enchantments from the book but none of them are meant to speed up any work. After a week, he’s finished his work before the deadline, so he can go back downtown to try some spells once more. This time he wants to seize all the magic out of the wand, instead of enchanting objects he goes further onto transforming entire scenarios, like changing the weather into a rainy evening, which he didn’t like because the book had no instructions for creating an umbrella. Sandman was no longer sure about what was going on in the environment with his magic spells, so he kept looking in the book until he finally found a nice scenario he wanted to stay in to enjoy, a cold snowy night, he cuddled in his warm magic covers admiring the snow falling, after all, he’d never had the chance to enjoy such event since it didn’t snow in the cities where he had lived and it was never going to.

He had made a connection with the wand after using it all day, then he remembered that he had bought a flight ticket back home for the next day in the morning, the connection between Sandman and the wand was such that the wand probably did realize about that too so it vanished, in a blink of an eye it was gone, there was no more magic to do. Next morning Sandman takes his flight aware that such unique day would be just a memory that he might never live again.
