A Ring, A Girl and A Question.

I sit on the swing with a ring in my lap

It glints in the sun like her eyes

It is not much, it can all i can afford right now

But I bought it for her, from my heart

I will ask her, i will ask when she comes

Here she comes now, there is a lump in my throat

I hide the box behind me

She sits on my lap and kisses my cheek, cuddling close to me

I smile and close my eyes, leaning into her

She looks at me with her all knowing eyes

"what are you hiding?" she asks

"Nothing" i lie and try to take her mind away

But she knows me too well and she starts to tickle me

I drop the box and she snatches it

I am pinned now, i have to ask.

I get down on one knee and open the box

I look up in her eyes and hope i'm not wrong

The butterflies jump in my throat

I swallow hard and look at her once more

I feel my voice return

My hand shakes, my body trembles then i ask the words

"My love, the person who makes me feel alive, the person who i think of every morning when i wake and every night before i sleep, the one to whome i owe my life and to who i give my heart, to my one and only love, the one i wish to spend my life with, i wish to ask thee ... will you marry me"

Then i lower my head to wait

and hope for a yes

Author's Notes/Comments:
