Across the waking fields from me
There lies a girl
Who in her world
Has lost everything
I can try to make her feel good
But my efforts are in vain
The tears of joy
As I have found
Can't wash away the pain
I've been down that dark road
And it gets longer by the day
I can try to help her
Through the things
That just might come her way
But it seems to no avail
I'm but a whisper in the dark
And I can't seem
To realize just what
Lies within her heart
I want to tell her what to feel
To make everything all good again
But as you know
I'm just a whisper
Of something called a friend
