As I see your hands clinch tighter

Onto your purse, I see the fear

Those whispers from your lips

You seem to think I can not hear



I notice all the cold stares

That complete look of distrust

Knowing you never knew me

Don't you think it's just too much



So you can see the black

That I cover myself in

It's a reflection of my soul

And the darkness held within



You seem to think I'm crazy

I'm a danger to myself

But you know you never knew me

You haven't felt the things I've felt



So please sit back and listen

As I try to tell you who I am

Not this creature that you see

But the ghost behind the man



I believe in higher morals

I don't cheat, steal or lie

We all can make mistakes

But we pay penance till we die



I believe in the son of God

Jesus saves me from this world

Through the blood of my savior

I can lay down this broken sword



I believe in higher learning

To know is to believe

And you must believe in something

Lest your end be met with grief



I believe in love unending

And true love, it does exist

But somewhere along the way

I guess some of us just missed



I believe in working hard

In having pride in what you do

Can't stand the lazy sort

Who always play you for the fool



I believe in these things

And I believe in so much more

I'm a spiritual entity

On wings of light I soar



Don't you think it's kind of funny

You think I'm the scum of man

I think I'm fairly normal

For the life that I have spanned
