Flash Fiction Story

It was the start of summer vacations and Joey never felt so sad about not going to school anymore but how could he be happy if this meant that he would not be able to see Monica walking through the school hallways, he loved to see her walk even though she didn’t even notice him but how could she, how did she manage to get over him so quickly. Joey and Monica were a couple for over 3 years but two months ago Monica ended it without any explanation which drove Joey crazy but at least he got to see her every day and now that school was over Joey felt a whole in his stomach knowing he didn’t have an excuse to at least run into her. He picked up his bike and headed home trying not to think about it, trying to realize what his summer would be without her, he didn’t remember the last summer he spent alone, he got used to see her everyday even more than once a day when it came to vacations, he started imagining her with that guy that a friend told him he saw her with, painting different scenarios where he would run into him and beat him up for going out with his girl, suddenly he came back to reality and looked back as he heard like someone was shouting  “STOP!” and when he turned to the front he realized why.

Joey opened his eyes and found himself laying in the floor, his head was bleeding and his bike was on the middle of the street, he had crash with a STOP sign which made him laugh a little for a second realizing the irony of what just happened. He got up and notice that the person which voice he heard screaming at him was jogging towards him. He looked at her as she reached to help him get up. She took of her headphones and said

“Are you okay? You should go get that checked it was a pretty good crash. Didn’t you saw the sign?”

“Yeah, I saw it it’s just that I liked crashing into thing” he said

She laughed

“Don’t you need any help? Maybe learning how to ride a bike?” she said sarcastically

“If I do, would you teach me?” he said looking at her and noticing that she was really pretty, this girl was wearing a sports bra and running shoes as if she was out for a run, her hair was brown and curly, her eyes were green but not green as the grass it was more of a light green and her face was covered in freckles. How did he never notice this girl if he drove through those streets every day to get home, and why isn’t she in school if she looks his age. “Are you new in town? Or why don’t I know you?”

“I just got here today, I’m staying at my grandmother’s house for the summer. And yes I will teach you to ride a bike if that prevents you from taking down all of the STOP signs.”

He laughed “Why don’t you let me take you for a spin so you can get to know the town” he said as he started to walk towards his bike so he could pick it up.

“For a spin? In your bike? After I saw how you ride I think I’ll pass.” She said as she put on her headphones “But I’ll tell you this, if I see you again maybe I won’t say no” she said and started jogging toward the opposite direction of Joey’s bike.

“What is your name?” he shouted but she didn’t answer, he thought about chasing after her but realized his bike was in pretty rough shape so he decided to walk home and as he did he found himself smiling “Maybe this summer won’t be that bad.” He thought.
